چکیده

In this paper, I critically assess the enactive account of visual perception recently defended by Alva Noë (2004) . I argue inter alia that the enactive account falsely identifi es an object ’ s apparent shape with its 2D perspectival shape; that it mistakenly assimilates visual shape perception and volumetric object recognition; and that it seriously misrepresents the constitutive role of bodily action in visual awareness. I argue further that noticing an object ’ s perspectival shape involves a hybrid experience combining both perceptual and imaginative elements — an act of what I call ‘ make-perceive ’ .

An analytical on the gap between theory and action in Allamah Tabatabaei

The gap between theory and ethical action is known an important problem in ethics and education. Analyzing the relationship between theory and ethical action and deciding the elements having to do with optional actions of human and their interaction, one may perceive the reasons and roots of the gap and, on this basis, improve educational theories to attain the harmony between theory and action...

The process of stereoscopic perception: A magnetoencephalographic study

Binocular disparity is one of many clues to perceive depth. Random-dot stereograms (RDS) designed by Julesz [1] enables us to make visual stimuli that exclusively have binocular disparity as a depth clue. Many physiological studies were done about visual cortical neurons which respond to binocular disparity [2], but it is still not clear what large-scale activity of such neurons detects corresp...

Developing body representations in early life: combining somatosensation and vision to perceive the interface between the body and the world.

This article lays out the computational challenges involved in constructing multisensory representations of the body and the interface between the body and the external world. It then provides a review of the most pertinent empirical literature regarding the ontogeny of such representational abilities in early life, focussing especially on ability to make spatiotemporal links between bodily eve...

Vicarious motor activation during action perception: beyond correlational evidence

Neurophysiological and imaging studies have shown that seeing the actions of other individuals brings about the vicarious activation of motor regions involved in performing the same actions. While this suggests a simulative mechanism mediating the perception of others' actions, one cannot use such evidence to make inferences about the functional significance of vicarious activations. Indeed, a ...

A blind human expert echolocator shows size constancy for objects perceived by echoes.

Some blind humans make clicking noises with their mouth and use the reflected echoes to perceive objects and surfaces. This technique can operate as a crude substitute for vision, allowing human echolocators to perceive silent, distal objects. Here, we tested if echolocation would, like vision, show size constancy. To investigate this, we asked a blind expert echolocator (EE) to echolocate obje...
